Review copy policy

I buy many books. Generally, it is not necessary to send me a review copy; I am fortunate enough to be able to afford just about any book I want, and I am happy to support the economy of letters. That said, I will gratefully accept review copies provided the following conditions are understood:

  • Receipt of a review copy does not guarantee that I will either read the book or add it to the library. If I receive a book that I don’t find interesting, I will do my best to give it to someone else who may spread the word.
  • Please do not send advance review copies. My experience of a book is intimately tied to its physical quality and the editorial standards of a text; I can assess neither of these in an uncorrected advance.
  • Likewise, no ebooks please. I love reading short form text on the screen, but I prefer paper books for reading long.
